MONCTON, N.B. — Two young people have died and several others were injured following a serious two-vehicle collision in Moncton Sunday evening.

Codiac Regional RCMP says officers were called to the intersection of Berry Mills Road and Zack Road at approximately 7:23 p.m. on October 5, 2026.

According to police, a car carrying five people from Moncton crossed the centre line and collided head-on with a sport utility vehicle travelling in the opposite direction. The SUV was also carrying five people.

A 16-year-old girl and an 18-year-old man died at the scene as a result of their injuries.

Three other occupants of the car were taken to hospital. Police say a 14-year-old boy suffered what are believed to be minor injuries, while a 16-year-old boy was reported to be in critical condition.

The 25-year-old driver of the car was also taken to hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

RCMP says the driver was later arrested as part of the ongoing investigation. Police have not announced charges at this time.

Five people travelling in the SUV, ranging in age from 24 to 72 and all from Arkansas, U.S.A., were also transported to hospital with injuries believed to be minor.

Codiac Regional RCMP, Moncton Fire Department, Ambulance New Brunswick, the RCMP Forensic Collision Analysis Team, RCMP drone operators and the New Brunswick Coroner's Office attended the scene.

Autopsies have been scheduled for the two people who died, and police say the investigation remains ongoing.

Berry Mills Road was closed for several hours while investigators processed the scene and has since reopened.
